May 20, 2007 Shi Zun at the Chinese Art and Music Association Performance On May 20th 2007, True Buddha School’s Grand Master Lu (Shi Zun) and Master Liang Xiang (Shi Mu) were invited by the famous er-hu artist and teacher Mr. Warren Chang and his wife, Ms. Buyun Zhao, a yang-qin and gu-zheng instrumentalist to the 2007 22nd annual concert. Mr. Warren Chang is the president of the Chinese Art and Music Association, the Director of the Seattle Chinese Orchestra, and a nationally well-known musician. On Mr. Chang and Ms. Zhao’s invitation, Masters and Reverends accompanied Shi Zun and Shi Mu to the annual concert. Numerous government and business officials were also present at the concert and lovers of Chinese music of all ethnicities created a full house at Meany Hall.
Warren Chang and Buyun Zhao have been students of Shi Zun for many years. Every year, they would always invite Shi Zun, Shi Mu, and Ling Shen Ching Tze Temple’s Masters and Reverends to their annual music concert. Mr. and Mrs. Chang had been invited to perform at the Temple previously and Mr. Chang has also taught the Reverends at the Temple the techniques of singing. The drum performance of the talented young musicians taught by Warren Chang and Buyun Zhao preformed a great piece and the sound of the drums vibrated throughout the whole music hall. They played songs on a number of instruments, including the yang-qin, er-hu, pipa, and gu-zheng, so that the music varied in its tone and was very pleasing to the ear. It brought the audience back to the rich and ancient culture of a distant China . The musicians’ concentration and sincerity brought the audience a well organized performance and left the audience with many memories.
After the performance, Shi Zun, Shi Mu, Warren Chang, Buyun Zhao, Mr. and Mrs. Sun Le Yu (international affairs committee member) got together to talk and took a picture together to commemorate the 22nd annual concert.
